Graphic Organizers
Graphic organizers are a tool which can help students organize what they are reading in a visual way. This can help students pull out the most important information and realize patterns in texts. The way graphic organizers are set up makes the processing of a text easier which can lead to an increased comprehension of the text and the major points it is trying to make. There are many types of graphic organizers including Venn Diagrams, Concept Maps, KWL Charts, checklists, and story maps. Although each one has its unique purpose, they are pretty simple to use and a majority of them can be used in content area reading and other subject ares. These have been shown to help students with learning disabilities improve their reading comprehension skills.
