RAP Strategy
This mnemonic is used to help students read a text and improve comprehension by identifying the key details and putting it into their own words. The RAP strategy works as follows:
READ the paragraph or a small piece of the text
ASK yourself about what the main idea was and what major details supported it
If students are taught to do this while reading, their comprehension of the text will be greatly benefited.

- usually about 2 details for a paragraph, depending on the text/purpose
If students are taught to do this while reading, their comprehension of the text will be greatly benefited.
