PLEASE Strategy
PLEASE is a mnemonic used to help students write a paragraph by breaking the process down into steps. The process goes as follows:
PICK the details for your story
END your paragraph
At this point the student will have written out a paragraph and then is at the editing and improving stage of their writing journey with this piece.
PICK the details for your story
- topic
- audience
- structure/format
- ideas about the topic
- use this list to help come up with sentences
- make sure you have enough ideas
- make sure you have all the main points
- put them in order
- write a topic sentence
- the sentence should set up the topic and be a starting point for the rest of the paragraph
- the sentence should be short, simple, and to the point
- write supporting sentences using your list
- clarify and expand the sentences
END your paragraph
- write a concluding sentence to wrap it up
At this point the student will have written out a paragraph and then is at the editing and improving stage of their writing journey with this piece.
